At home with seachanger Shaun Douglas-Galley
The skincare specialist behind one of Adelaide’s most exclusive skin health clinic’s shows us a few of his home favourites. Here, Shaun Douglas-Galley completes our “at home with”questionnaire”…
AGE: 39
WORKLIFE
I own DermaZen Skin Health Clinic – we focus on skin health restoration and bringing the latest anti-ageing treatments to Adelaide.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS/BEST KNOWN FOR…
Helping to keep many women and men in Adelaide looking young and at their best. I’m also known for my many stories – life has been a great adventure so far.
I’VE LIVED IN MY HOME FOR…
About a year. We relocated from the Hills to the beach – and just love the sea change. I live with my husband, our two children and our two dogs. The dogs tend to sleep most of the day – where as the kids most certainly don’t.
MY HOME IS...
A getaway from the daily grind. A space that reflects our love for travel and escapism and a great place to raise a family.
I LOVE MY HOME…
Because – it’s a memory maker!
BUT I STILL NEED TO…
Find some time to go through all the homewares we brought over from the UK. There are boxes that remain unopened – it’s the kind of thing that always gets pushed back because the day to day takes over.
MY DECORATING STYLE
I like strong, bold but simple design that tells a story. That’s why Asian influence has always featured heavily in our home.
RECENT PURCHASE
I love Homebasics and Design, Jetty Rd, Glenelg, and recently bought a Mr Moss SOH Melbourne Candle – the scent is incredible.
I COLLECT…
Sunglasses and sunscreen – both are important – and each year I seem to stockpile both.
FAVOURITE ROOM
I love the clinic room – the idea that you can have a relaxing treatment and watch dolphins jumping in the ocean – it’s a win every time.
HOME FAVOURITES
— Our Tamara de Lempicka inspired vase – the Art Deco era of the 1920s/30s was a formative influence for our modern age design – love it!
— Sonos sound system – It’s on every morning, every evening – couldn’t be without music in our home.
— Versace L’Homme for men cologne – I first came across this in New York in 2005 and have been addicted ever since.
I COULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT…
My Ninja machine – it makes the perfect smoothie shake every morning and helps me tick off some of my five a day.
WHEN I GET HOME AT NIGHT…
I sit for 30 minutes and just take time out – no social media – no devices – we all lead busier and busier lives. It’s important to look around, be grateful and connect – before the madness begins again.
AT WEEKENDS I LIKE TO…
Head out with my boys on their scooters. We all have our own scooter, it’s great fun, we can have adventures as a family – and it costs nothing.
I LIKE TO LISTEN TO…
My kids talking about Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu – it’s a very different reality – and very serious business at their age.
CLEAN FREAK OR MESSY BESSIE?
I like to think I’m a clean freak. But really it’s freaking out cleaning that happens in this house.
ON MY WISH LIST IS…
Alexa – the idea that I could talk to technology and make my life that much easier – a win every time in my book.
WHEN I’M HOME I LIKE TO COOK…
I’m a good cook in the winter and make a great Sunday roast with Yorkshire puddings and homemade gravy. Summer time gets lazy and it’s often salad with chicken.
FAV CAFE/RESTAURANT/BAR
I’m obsessed with Bowlsome at Henley Beach – the food has great flavour and is guilt free – I’d encourage people to try it out.
IN MY GARDEN I HAVE…
A chill out space where we can sit, watch the ocean and unwind from the day to day.
IF I COULD AFFORD IT I WOULD LIVE…
Close to Windy Point Restaurant – that part of Belair with ocean and city views – priceless.
HOME MEANS…
A space we can relax, have fun and grow as a family.
