Brisbane’s cheapest rental suburbs

THOSE renting in the southern Brisbane were the real winners with four of its suburbs the cheapest in the city to rent an apartment.

Rocklea was listed in a Queensland Rental Tenancy Authority report as having the cheapest rent for a two-bedroom apartment in Brisbane, with renters paying a median of just $208 a week in the quarter to June.

This is down $112 dollars from the quarter to June 2016 when the median rent was $320.

Parkinson came in second place, with rent a median of $290 per week for a two-bedroom flat, and Nathan a close third at $295 a week.

Salisbury came in fifth place behind Northgate, with a median rent of $318 weekly.

Meanwhile, those renting in the southwest suburbs were the real winners with six of its suburbs the cheapest in the city to rent a house.

Darra, Wacol, Doolandella, Durack, Inala and Richlands were listed in a Queensland Rental Tenancy Authority report as having the cheapest rent for a three-bedroom house in Brisbane, with renters paying a median of just $330 a week in the quarter to June.

While this is down $10 dollars per week from the quarter to June 2016 for Durack and Wacol, it is up $10 per week for Doolandella, Durack, Inala and Richlands for the same period.

Larapinta and Willawong were also the next cheapest suburbs, with rent paid $350 per week for a three-bedroom house.

Manage My Property principal John Lui said areas like Doolandella were great value for money because while they were a little further out, resulting in lower rents, they still had easy access to all directions.

“You go to south, north, or west, because of the highway.

“It is affordable for people to live and has easy access.”

3. Nathan — $295

4. Northgate — $313

1. Darra, Wacol, Doolandella, Durack, Inala and Richlands — $330

2. Acacia Ridge, Larapinta, Willawong and Kuraby — $350

3. Archerfield, Coopers Plains, Forest Lake and Carole Park — $360

4. Bald Hills — $370

5. Rocklea — $380
