one of the largest aspects for the local economy surrounding the midwestern town of lake houghton, michigan is tourism. however, as the majority of tourists come for the lake during the summer, the winter period represents a slow moment. however, in a bid to attract guests during the winter, a hotel developed the 1958 ice speedster.

the snow plane proved popular in colder climates and played a pivotal role in transporting goods, people, mail and other supplies to remote areas by crossing ice and snow not easily done via cars. sildrome reports this model actually resembles a ‘snow plane‘ built from a convertible sports car. the ice speedster is capable of seating two, and is equipped with a four-cylinder continental airplane engine, quicksilver throttle control, and ford steering unit. you can capture this model — believed in be in original condition — for auction at the sotheby’s auburn fall 2018 later this month.
