Colourful 1940s Box Hill beauty delights bidders at auction battle

A BOX Hill period beauty has sold at auction for $2 million, with investors rather than developers vying for the home.

The 1947-built home at 18 Kangerong Rd was thought to be the perfect prize for developers, due to its 920sq m block and lack of heritage protection.

But the colourful three-bedroom charmer, listed for $2 million-$2.2 million, instead appealed to two investors who “fought it out” for the home.

Woodards Blackburn agent Christine Bafas the Victorian replica home was a great “overall package”, offering period history, location, style and convenience.

The colourful kitchen features stainless-steel appliances and a dishwasher.

The well-maintained house features 3.65m high ceilings, Baltic pine floors, double-hung windows, intricate cornicing, french doors and open fireplaces as well as a wraparound veranda.

Ms Bafas said the local investor who snapped up the deceased estate hadn’t told her their intentions for the property.
