Gaggenau’s Kitchen of the Year Design Contest seeks to acknowledge the very best of kitchen design in Australia. The awards are reserved for those who embody the Gaggenau brand: pioneers in the kitchen space, recognised world-wide for their enduring craftsmanship and avant-garde design. Open to architects, interior designers, kitchen designers, builders and developers, submissions must speak to the kitchen being the heart of the home, where materiality, function and technology are at the fore.

Much like the 2021 awards, the contest will be judged by a distinguished panel of industry leaders, including Sue Carr (Carr), Rob Mills (Rob Mills Architects & Interiors), Edwina Withers (Boffi), Henrik Müller (1zu33), Adelene Teh (Beulah International) and Raj Nandan (Indesign). Each kitchen will be judged based on five criteria: design authenticity and originality, response to the client brief, performance and end-user considerations, quality of execution and the integration of Gaggenau’s kitchen appliances. The 2021 winning project, Bell Street Bluestone by Robert Nichol & Sons, measured up to this criteria with a unique kitchen experience in the heart of Melbourne’s Fitzroy.

Gaggenau senior brand communications manager Olya Yemchenko says the brand is synonymous with some of Australia’s most memorable residential architecture and design projects. “We’re renowned for exceptional kitchen design here in Australia, which the 2021 awards attested to,” she says. “The caliber of entries was just extraordinary. We can’t wait to showcase more from this thriving sector come 2023.”

Submissions will be open from November 1st 2022, until April 30 2023, with winners shortlisted in July and announced in September.
