They Rebuilt This House After a Wildfire — Now It’s Fireproof

What happens when a house is destroyed by fire… and rebuilt to live in harmony with the same landscape?

Pine Flat Residence by Faulkner Architects is more than a modern mountain home — it’s a response to climate, terrain, and resilience. Built on the remains of a former off-grid cabin lost in the Kincade Fire, this project transforms destruction into a new way of living with nature.

From its weathering steel shell to its off-grid systems, recycled foundation, and carefully controlled openings, every design decision balances protection, simplicity, and connection to the land.

In this video, we explore how architecture can adapt, endure, and quietly redefine what it means to rebuild.
