How do you save a family home without freezing it in the past?
Casa Sabina began as the childhood home of its owner in Cuenca, Ecuador. Instead of demolishing it or preserving it as an empty memory, Atempo Arquitectura transformed it into five independent homes while keeping the spaces, materials, and history that gave the house its identity.
The original entry hall still welcomes people. Hidden brick walls were uncovered during construction and left exposed. A new upper floor was carefully added without pretending to be old. The result is a home that changed completely, yet never lost the story that made it worth saving.
Sometimes the best way to preserve a house is to let it become something new.
