Nelson Terrace is a minimalist residence located in London, United Kingdom, designed by Paolo Cossu Architects. The project was commissioned by a London-based fashion designer who desired a contemporary living space that seamlessly integrated the property’s historical features with modern design elements. PCA achieved this by using a carefully curated selection of materials and a subdued color palette, allowing the client’s furniture and art collection to be the focal points of the interior. The client also added their personal touch by introducing a limited palette of primary colors, which were thoughtfully applied to specific elements of the house, such as doors, thresholds, architraves, and banisters.

PCA’s redesign of the house involved reimagining the layout to create a smooth flow between the upper and lower ground floors, establishing distinct living and entertaining areas. The ground floor now houses a design studio, meeting the client’s professional requirements. The open floor plan and dual aspects enhance the studio’s functionality, effectively separating it from the private living spaces. Unique lighting fixtures, including pieces from Valerie Objects and Davide Groppi, lend character to this space. In the basement, a new rear extension has been added, providing a contemporary living area with direct access to the garden, effectively blending indoor and outdoor spaces.

A semi-circular skylight frames views of the sky, casting intriguing moving shadows on the walls and the floor, which is finished in Kerakoll Cementoresina. At the core of the basement, a bespoke rough-sawn oak kitchen ties together the different areas, featuring Grigio Alpi and Nero Marquina stone slabs that conceal the cooking area. Moving up to the first floor, you’ll find the master bedroom and bathroom. In the master bedroom, the original timber structure of the wall has been exposed to create a new mirrored doorway. The bathroom, entirely finished in Kerakoll Cementoresina, occupies a former bedroom and features iconic elements like the Agape Lariana bathtub and Ell sink, adding a touch of timeless elegance to the space.
