“Midcentury time capsule” doesn’t begin to describe this perfectly preserved Palm Springs home.
Arthur Elrod might be best known for the Elrod House—a domed Palm Springs residence designed by John Lautner which famously appeared in the James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever. However, before Elrod moved into that iconic home, the interior designer lived in this one.
The Hollywood Regency–style home sits almost exactly as Elrod left it. The oversized doors feature antique Moroccan brass door pulls made from a four-poster bed.

350 W. Via Lola is a grand Hollywood Regency–style home—also known as the Escape House—that Elrod fabulously furnished in his signature glamorous 1960s style. In 1964, Elrod sold the home to his friends, Frances and Bill Hamlin, on the condition that they wouldn’t change a thing, according to an article in Palm Springs Life. The home has been in the Hamlin family ever since—and today it’s almost exactly as the designer left it.
The home comes complete with all the original Elrod furnishings and art—including this massive carpet by V’Soske.

“This house is very special to me because Arthur Elrod was a very close friend of mine,” shares listing agent Nelda Linsk. “Arthur used this house to experiment with color palettes for future interior design projects. He was one of the first designers to use a great room.” 350 W. Via Lola is now for sale with all of its original Elrod furnishings and art.
