The introverted personality of this house is evident right on the front facade, which resembles two stacked, enormous boxes with no openings. The main door is completely covered by a perforated metal structure. There are no windows facing the street on either the 1st or 2nd level.
The homeowners are introverted; they didn’t want their daily life to be exposed. This introverted personality is supported by the layout of the rooms. The front of the house is dedicated to services and common areas. The further back you go, the more private it becomes.
In the configuration of the volume and spatial program, a spacious house with large openings was created while minimizing dividing walls. This is a response to generating a healthy space, given the high number of attached houses in Indonesia. In addition to forming an effective and spacious area, the volume is also shaped so that each side has an open area. Even on the upper floors, all four sides of the building have windows.
The exploration of the material present in this project involves its facade. The ceramic piece commonly used for floors or interiors is applied as facade material in terracotta color tones. This custom product has a size that matches the dimensions of the building itself. Therefore, construction had to be very precise so that the pieces and grout were installed correctly. Considering the characteristics of this country, which still does not have easy access to many special tools and technologies, woodworking should be appreciated because it still maintains the craftsmanship of hands in building constructions.
