To reach the bedroom in this tiny house, you have to step outside.
Gimme Shelter is a compact home on the Swedish island of Väddö, designed by architect Emelie Holmberg. Instead of placing every room inside one small box, the house is split into two wooden structures. The living room, kitchen, and bathroom are on one side. The bedroom is on the other.
Between them, a shared roof creates a protected outdoor room where the forest becomes part of everyday life. Sliding wooden panels control sunlight, wind, privacy, and views, while large glass openings allow the interiors to open almost completely to the trees.
The house also became the first prototype for a modular system designed to grow over time. New bedrooms, studios, workspaces, or covered outdoor areas can be added only when they are actually needed.
A 430-square-foot home that feels less like one tiny cabin and more like a small collection of shelters in the forest.
