TINY VINYL BUILDS A TURNTABLE FOR ITS SMALLEST RECORDS

Tiny Vinyl expands its miniature music format with a compact turntable designed specifically for four-inch records. The tabletop player uses a belt-driven platter rotating at 33.3 RPM, pairing the company’s palm-sized discs with hardware scaled to match. Finished in black leatherette, the device resembles a suitcase turntable that has spent a little too long in the wash.

The records themselves remain compatible with conventional turntables, so the new player is less a technical necessity than an attempt to create a complete ecosystem around the format. Each traditionally pressed release holds one track per side, with up to four minutes of playback, turning the object into a hybrid of single, souvenir, and collectible merchandise.

BUILT-IN SPEAKERS KEEP THE SETUP DELIBERATELY SIMPLE

Measuring approximately 25.5 centimeters wide, the Tiny Vinyl Player includes two integrated speakers for immediate listening. Bluetooth connectivity allows the sound to be sent to external speakers or headphones, while a stereo headphone jack offers a wired alternative. Power comes from an AC connection rather than a battery, meaning its small footprint is better suited to a desk than an impromptu listening session on the bus.

The design forms part of a wider family of accessories developed around the records. A miniature crate stores a growing collection of sleeves, while a square display frame presents selected releases on the wall. Together, the pieces reproduce the familiar rituals of collecting, shelving, and exhibiting vinyl, only with considerably less furniture involved.

MINIATURE RECORDS BECOME DISPLAYABLE MUSIC OBJECTS

Tiny Vinyl has already produced four-inch releases featuring artists including BTS, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, The Rolling Stones, and Black Sabbath. Made from bio-attributed vinyl, each disc uses substantially less material than a standard 12-inch record while remaining a playable, conventionally pressed object rather than a decorative imitation. The format also contributes to recognized music sales figures, lending the tiny records a surprisingly adult administrative life.

Priced at $49.99, the player is conceived as an accessible extension of the format rather than a rival to high-end audio equipment. Its built-in storage slots, compact dimensions, and deliberately charming proportions place it closer to collectible design than serious hi-fi. For listeners who believe every format deserves its own dedicated machine, even when an existing turntable already works perfectly well, Tiny Vinyl is happy to oblige.

This is an old apartment with 40 years of history. The designer rotated the original axis and redesigned the structure in order to integrate the confusing flow line. There was only a single side of light in this space, after the rearrangement, the three sides of light, air and natural were introduced into the space giving the old house a new look. The designer tried to expose the original beams in the open space and colored the lowest beams with grey, which goes with the façade, so as to weaken the protruding beams. Also showing the natural beauty of the original structure within the space. On the other hand, there is no over-decorated design in the bedroom and the other rooms, only using the simple point-line-plan structure and non-chromatic to create a balanced picture. On the flow line planning, the designer integrated the main entrances of five rooms into one hallway. Using spray painting, wallpaper, secret doors, and sliding doors on the aisle space, which used to be confusing at the first place, to hide the appearance but also maintain its function. The design enlarged the space and made it return to the original strength and essence.

There are occasions when planned renovations and extensions go just to plan. Then there are times when a makeover can actually make the home poorer by blocking off the flow of light. Of course, every home alteration is a product of the times and what worked a couple of decades ago might just not be […]

Martha’s Vineyard is home to the single largest concentration of our residential work and some of our earliest projects, including the Polly Hill Arboretum. Chilmark House, like many of these commissions, is immersed in the landscape and continually reconnects its inhabitants with the surrounding woods, pools of sunlight and nearby Vineyard Sound. Entire walls and windows are designed to vanish and erase boundaries between indoors and outdoors. We were guided in the earliest phase of the project by the couple’s wish for distinct public and private spaces and the site’s topography. The central public space—the living and dining areas–plus a sitting room in the guest wing, are oriented toward a kind of natural sun-filled well on the house’s south side. Interior load-bearing elliptical columns allow sliding doors and windows to make large openings to the south in the exterior walls. Opposite, on the north side, sliding windows create large gaps in the exterior, connecting the living room and kitchen directly to the woods and waters of the sound. Bedrooms are on the wooded edges, on the east and west sides. A roof deck, terrace and side decks create outdoor living spaces. Shortly after completion of this project, the couple asked us to begin designing a guesthouse nearby as their family continued to grow.
