Conversion CPG Boilerhouse is a minimalist space located in Cham, Switzerland, designed by Boltshauser Architekten. Designed by Boltshauser Architekten and Albi Nussbaumer Architekten until 2016, the plan integrates these structures into a new residential and commercial environment. The existing buildings, along with newly constructed parallel structures, create a central public space within the Papieri area. The approach involves preserving the robust structural elements of PM 1-4 while adapting them for contemporary residential and commercial purposes.
Original support structures, ceiling frameworks, and floor shoulders are retained and incorporated into the new spaces, facilitating efficient circulation through the buildings. This adaptive reuse not only maintains the integrity of the historic building elements but also allows for versatile floor plans suitable for modern living. Historically significant windows are a focal point, preserved and enhanced with continuous loggias that provide both thermal insulation and architectural continuity. Where historic windows are absent, new architectural elements complement the existing facades, ensuring a harmonious dialogue between old and new throughout the design.
