Freedom Ship proposes floating city concept for global cruising
Freedom Cruise Line International, Inc. unveils Freedom Ship, a floating city concept designed as a global cruising vessel and urban-scale marine environment.
The project explores modern urban design and city-making, considering how place, identity, and functionality contribute to the structure of cities. Freedom Ship applies these principles within a maritime context, proposing a mobile city that operates as a continuous global route. The concept positions the vessel as a system combining architectural planning, spatial organization, and long-distance mobility.

Freedom Ship develops a structured living environment on water
Freedom Cruise Line International Inc., a Florida-based company, has appointed Schopfer Associates LLC as the lead design practice for the project. Led by architect E. Kevin Schopfer, the studio contributes architectural and multidisciplinary design expertise to the development of the Freedom Ship concept, extending it from an engineering proposal into a structured living environment.
The design scope includes the planning of urban districts, public spaces, and circulation systems within the vessel, alongside the development of a cohesive visual identity. The approach integrates large-scale architectural strategies with marine design requirements, aiming to establish a continuous built environment at sea that functions as both transportation infrastructure and inhabitable urban system.
