mikiya kobayashi puts together a park of furniture in playscape exhibition
on the occasion of moving his tokyo shop and changing its name from ‘taiyou no shita’ to ‘implements’, mikiya kobayashi has put together a park of furniture on the empty space, for both adults and children to enjoy. titled ‘playscape’, the exhibition features five different items that everyone can interact with, a swing, a seesaw, a cradle, a mountain (slide), and a rocking chair, while it is meant to portray the japanese designer’s wish to eventually design his own park.

playscape expresses mikiya kobayashi‘s gratitude to the city, past customers, and those who supported the shop during the previous years. backed by karimoku, one of the biggest japanese furniture companies, with whom the designer maintains a strong relationship since the beginning of his career, the exhibition features five objects, covered in fabrics by kvadrat. the former retail space invites visitors into a friendly environment, where the children’s laughter while using the objects, accompanied by music composed by masato hatanata, transmits a happy atmosphere.
