Most people would have seen a narrow parking area hidden behind commercial buildings. LLDS saw enough room for an entire home.
Northcote House sits on a lot only about 15 feet wide in Melbourne, Australia. Inside its 860 square feet, the architects fit two bedrooms, a library, a compact kitchen, several small living spaces, outdoor areas, and three staircases that replace the usual hallway.
At the center, a curved staircase wraps around a sunken circular room, while skylights carry daylight down through the house. And because there was no space left for a garden at ground level, the architects lifted the garden onto the roof and built the house underneath it.
