Usually a House Gets a Roof. Here, the Roof Got a House

Usually, a house comes first and the roof is added afterward. At Casa en Ensenada, it feels like the exact opposite happened.

This 1,670-square-foot home begins with one enormous roof floating between the trees. Beneath it, wood-clad private rooms, transparent living spaces, terraces, walkways, and shaded outdoor areas are arranged across the natural slope.

The deep overhangs protect the glass from direct sunlight, while the visible steel structure allows the roof to feel separate from the smaller volumes below. Inside, the living room, dining area, and kitchen open toward the landscape, while the bedrooms remain protected within solid wood volumes.

Casa en Ensenada is not simply a house covered by a roof. It is an entire domestic landscape created beneath one continuous shelter.
