The Star Wars–inspired structures have been torn down after Yeezy failed to adhere to permitting regulations and ignored a warning from Los Angeles County.
If you hadn’t heard, Kanye West recently set down the sneakers and the mic to develop Tatooine-esque domes designed to house the homeless and end class division. Four modest prototypes of different shapes and sizes popped up on his 300-acre Calabasas property, however three have been demolished after West failed to comply with building code requests from the L.A. County Department of Public Works.
The demolition came about a week prior to a September 15 deadline set by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works. Overhead photos of the site show heaps of rubble where these structures once stood.

Tear-down warnings came about a month ago when local police were tipped about the illegal buildings by a neighbor who heard construction noise. Crews purportedly worked 12-hour days from before 8 a.m. to after 5 p.m., and on Sundays—including hours when construction is prohibited by the county. The irony—like the construction—is blaring considering West’s well-known and ongoing Sunday Service—a day of rest that celebrates devoutness through music in his community.
Kanye West’s Yeezy Homes were inspired by the desert structures depicted on the Star Wars planet of Tatooine. The planet was named after the southern Tunisian city Tataouine, which is known for such structures.

The forced demolition is a blow that can’t sting much for West, who exhibits alarming levels of pluck. His paths to success in the rap and fashion worlds were prefaced ad infinitum with motormouth claims much like this one: “I’m going to be one of the biggest real estate developers of all time—what Howard Hughes was to air crafts and what Henry Ford was to cars…We gonna develop cities.”
