House of Contrast, near Pune, India, begins as a quiet gray box.
But inside, it reveals something very different.
The house was shaped by a difficult peri-urban context: dust from nearby truck movement, privacy concerns, future commercial development, heat, and limited possibilities for opening directly to the outside.
So instead of becoming fully transparent, the house protects itself.
From the street, it appears more closed, gray, and controlled. Inside, it opens through brick walls, covered courtyards, light wells, curved openings, mustard accents, shadow, air, and moments of color.
This is a house about contrast:
closed outside,
alive inside,
protected from the surroundings,
but full of light, texture, and spatial pauses within.
