When it comes to designing furniture, Cole Bennett and Rob Bezrutczyk are well-versed with the process. As the owners of ThirdKind Studio, a CNC-based digital fabrication shop in New York City, they have produced designs for notable names in the design industry, like Bjarke Ingels Group, Egg Collective, Cartier, adidas, Google, and more. After eight years though, they decided to start producing their own designs under their new brand THIRDKIND, starting with The Abigail Set. Consisting of The Abigail Chair and The Abigail Table, the collection is a collaborative effort with Office for Tangible Space that makes art furniture both accessible and eco-friendly.

Five years ago, a client named Abigail commissioned Office of Tangible Space to create a custom dining set. ThirdKind Studio was tasked to fabricate the design. The dining set was so well received that they decided to develop the design further and launch it as its debut furniture collection.

The Abigail Set makes sustainability a forefront consideration instead of an afterthought. The furniture is made with FSC-certified plywood that can be traced to a sustainably managed forest. The fabrication process is done in a way to keep waste cuts to a minimum. Handling the design and manufacturing process in-house also helps reduce pricing, making the collection more accessible to all. Every piece is flat-packed and easy to assemble, requiring less fossil fuel to transport it to its final destination.

The legs and tabletop of the dining table are available in different colors that can be mixed and matched. The leg profile of the table is also reflected in the dining chair. Like the dining table, each part of the dining chair is available in different colors to create customized color combinations. When not in use, the chair tucks neatly under the table, disappearing below and reducing the set’s footprint.
