I Found a new PREFAB HOME Company Building 100s of Attainable Dwellings!

This week I went to Indy to check out a prefab home company building single and multi family dwellings with a focus on attainability called Volumod. While I was there one of the projects I looked at a development of 64 triplexes for a total of 192 units made up of 1 and 2 bedroom floor plans. In this video I look at the 1 and 2 bedroom unit. Watch to learn more about the Alder Triplex from Volumod.

Volumod Review: Innovative Modular Construction Solutions

Volumod, based in Indianapolis, Indiana, is a forward-thinking modular construction company specialising in the design and manufacture of both single-family and multi-family housing units. The company leverages volumetric modular construction techniques within a climate-controlled factory environment, aiming to deliver efficient, high-quality housing solutions with faster build times and better cost control compared to traditional construction methods.

Product Offerings

Volumod provides a diverse catalogue of pre-designed modular units tailored to various residential needs:

  • Single-Family Homes: Models such as the Ash, Laurel, and Pinyon feature contemporary open-plan layouts, modern interior finishes, and an emphasis on energy efficiency. Each design balances practicality with aesthetic appeal.

  • Multi-Family Units: Offerings like the Alder Triplex, Sycamore Quadplex, and Cypress Apartments provide flexible, higher-density living options. These multi-unit structures are ideal for developers looking to maximise land use while maintaining quality living spaces.

  • Specialised Housing: The Mulberry Studio Apartments cater specifically to student housing or group living scenarios, offering compact, efficient units combined with shared communal areas to encourage community living.

Volumod’s pre-designed models allow for rapid project mobilisation, yet retain the flexibility for site-specific adaptations and client-driven customisations.

Advantages of Volumod’s Modular Construction

Volumod’s modular construction system provides several notable benefits:

  • Speed of Delivery: Projects can be completed between 30% to 50% faster than conventional builds. By manufacturing modules in parallel with site preparation, project timelines are dramatically shortened.

  • Cost Certainty: Fixed pricing models ensure better budget control, limiting the financial risks often associated with construction overruns.

  • Quality Control: Building in a factory environment ensures higher precision, tighter tolerances, and protection from weather delays, resulting in a consistently superior finished product.

  • Sustainability: Volumod’s modular approach reduces material waste, improves energy efficiency, and promotes sustainable building practices, aligning with modern environmental goals.

Community and Workforce Development

Volumod is deeply committed to local economic growth and workforce training. They actively collaborate with local community organisations to create employment opportunities and develop skills in the construction trades. Their initiatives particularly focus on revitalising underserved areas like the Far Eastside of Indianapolis, strengthening their community roots while building a stronger workforce.

Customer and Employee Feedback

Employee reviews suggest that Volumod is regarded as a positive workplace, with supportive management and pathways for professional growth. However, as with many growing organisations, some feedback points to opportunities for improving management consistency and further enhancing the workplace culture.

While customer reviews are currently limited, Volumod maintains a strong industry reputation and has been recognised for its professionalism and dedication to quality. Their operations are closely aligned with modular construction best practices, and they carry a high credibility rating with industry regulatory bodies.

Conclusion

Volumod is a rising force within the modular construction sector, offering innovative, efficient, and community-focused building solutions. Their combination of high-quality products, accelerated build times, commitment to sustainability, and social impact initiatives sets them apart from many competitors.

For developers, municipalities, and organisations seeking modern housing solutions with reduced timelines and controlled costs, Volumod presents a compelling and trustworthy choice. Their projects stand as a testament to the potential of modular construction when approached with precision, vision, and a strong community spirit.

The Yelm residence is a contemporary take on a country home: using a combination of simple, cost-effective methods to create a warm, comfortable space through clean lines and precise design. A minimal exterior material palette of wood and stucco siding with metal panel accents helps to highlight the beauty of the 10 acres of land on which the house rests. Concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls frame the entry and a flat roof plane hovers overhead to ground the project into the prairie style landscape. The home reflects the clients’ informal lifestyle and relationship to the environment. He is a graphic designer who works from home; her hobbies include sewing, craft projects, and gardening.
The home is 2,200 square feet and L-shaped in plan, which allows for the master suite and office to be separated from the guest rooms, craft room and garage. Centrally placed are the open plan living room, kitchen, and dining room. These rooms create a core space with expansive glass walls that connect the owners visually and physically to the landscape. Private views of foothills and tree-covered wetlands are offered through the transparent core, along with sightings of deer and elk near the back patio. Designed with radiant floor heating, heat-recovery technology, and natural ventilation, the simplicity of the floor plan’s organization creates an intimate and warm interior environment. A concrete masonry fireplace paired with the copper-toned, stained birch ceiling also adds material warmth. Circulation through the space is enlivened by built-in storage benches, acting as visual breaks and adding pops of color. Efficient planning and the repetition of elements throughout the house helped to keep costs down, resulting in an economically priced, modern home that compliments its natural environment.
