Did interior design always interest you?
Yes, two of my aunts are interior designers and architects, so I grew up watching them work! But I started my profession in a similar field, Visual Merchandising for global companies, which combines interior, graphic, and fashion.

How would you define your design style?
Contemporary and minimalist. My substyles would be modern and neoclassic. I mostly enjoy creating masculine designs, clean, monochromatic spaces, and black and white. Plus, I love working with marble.
Who or what influences your work?
I’m a compulsive sucker for visuals! I’m always engaged in what’s happening and what’s next. I have a few lesser-known designers that I follow, and love their work and unique branding. And, of course, there are big names you can’t ignore. For example, Kelly Wearstler is not to my taste, but definitely to be watched as an eye-opener. She makes me reflect on how I could translate what she does into my style.

What’s a must-have item you make sure your interior designs include?
I don’t have a must-have. Instead, I think it’s very important to respect the client’s taste and wishes, as the projects aren’t about me. I’ll use my knowledge to guide their choices to the best outcome.

What is a recent design trend that you love at the moment?
I don’t follow trends because I have a very defined style. But that said, I like to get bits and pieces from what’s trending to create something new. At the moment, I like the Hellenistic Revival, the carved collections, and also the integrated lighting on furniture.

If you had to pick a favorite room in your home, which would it be and why?
I’m a nomad and hardly spend more than a year or two in one place or country. I have to confess that it is hard as an interior designer! But I enjoy constant change and traveling a lot. The positive side is that I get to do many beautiful homes for my clients, which fulfills me.

What is your favorite design magazine or blog and why?
I’m more of a visual person, so Pinterest and Instagram are my go-to sources. But if I have to pick a few, it’ll be WGSN, Trend Bible, and Salone Del Mobile. Architectural Digest and Vogue Casa also feature.

What is the best thing about being an interior designer?
I would say I have two things that bring me much joy. The first is when I design something that is particularly my style. It makes me happy and proud to create something I consider beautiful. Next is when clients tell me how happy they are with the result, that I can imagine how I have helped them, or that they will live in a house I helped to build and grow their families, and so on. I’m fortunate to have clients that say these things. They make my day and make me look at my profession differently.

What was your first big project and what was your favorite part?
It was a 1000sqm showroom in High Point. I was the Creative Director of a furniture company, and it was my first job being responsible for home interior design. It involved months of planning and teamwork. I was based in Hong Kong and arrived in High Point seven days before the show started.

I had to finish the final construction details, unpack the furniture, and set and style the whole space while coordinating a huge team. My favorite part was to see everything ready and on time! Now and then, I go back to the photos and remember these days. It was magical to be on the floor working with my hands!

How do you manage challenges that come up during a design project?
Talking about it with the client! Coming up with many solutions until I find one the client is happy with is essential to my approach.
