With the introduction of Mathieu Matégot’s Satellite Outdoor Floor Lamp and Satellite Outdoor Pendant, GUBI launched its first dedicated outdoor lighting designs. Playful and sculptural with beautiful light play, the eccentric modern designs still retain their appeal 70 years later after the original collection was introduced. Adapted specifically for use on covered patios, verandas, and garden spaces, the new outdoor light fixtures carry Matégot’s organic, geometric designs into the open air.
The collection’s moniker is a nod to the technological optimism of the postwar era, as well as the cosmic object and public interest in space at the time. The Satellite Collection features the designer’s hallmark throughout: perforated metal sheeting Matégot called Rigitulle that’s been folded and shaped using his own special technique. The shade’s ovoid-shaped shell casts a diffused light 360º around the lamp, and is topped with an aluminum cap that deflects light back into the space for a distinctive glow.
The Satellite Pendant is available in two sizes and brings with it plenty of versatility. Hang it alone to illuminate a dining space or covered outdoor area, or cluster several together to make a strong visual statement. Both the Satellite Pendant and Floor Lamp shades are available in two of Matégot’s favorite colors: Cream White or Mustard Gold, both with a semi-matte finish. The aluminum cap that tops the shade is black with a white underside, to reflect and direct the light. The Floor Lamp’s base and stand are also black.
